Has the Promised Surge Been Achieved? The Government Reports on its Accomplishments in 2025

Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Siliņa presents the government's annual report to the Sáima, highlighting achievements in security, economic growth, and support for Ukraine.

During an extraordinary government meeting on March 2, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa presented the annual report to the Sáima, detailing the accomplishments and planned activities of the Cabinet. Siliņa expressed gratitude to ministers for their contributions, emphasizing the government's commitment to significant issues, particularly national security and support for Ukraine, where Latvia has often been one of the first to offer help. She also highlighted the Baltic states’ exit from a unified energy network with aggressor nations, achieved in February of the previous year.

The Prime Minister pointed out positive developments in Latvia's economy, with recently published data indicating that the country's GDP increased by 2.1% in 2025, which she deemed a promising figure. Economists corroborated this assessment, noting that the economy had grown faster than expected in the previous year. Investment strategies were also discussed, particularly the establishment of a 'green corridor' aimed at facilitating investment and strengthening defense initiatives across various ministries.

Siliņa stressed that substantial efforts had been made in nearly all ministries to improve bureaucratic processes and support these strategic initiatives. The report serves not only as a reflection of the government's performance but also sets the tone for future policy directions and priorities, particularly concerning national security and economic development aspirations in the face of ongoing geopolitical challenges.
