Do not rush to change winter tires for summer tires
The Latvian Road Traffic Safety Directorate advises motorists not to hasten the switch from winter to summer tires, citing ongoing vehicle inspections revealing safety issues with winter tire compliance.
The Latvian Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), in collaboration with the State Police, has conducted inspections on 8,216 vehicles this winter season to assess their technical condition and compliance with winter tire regulations. This inspection revealed that 195 vehicles received a second assessment rating, effectively nullifying their technical checks until deficiencies are rectified within a month. Particularly concerning was the revelation that 54 vehicles were fitted with excessively worn tires, posing significant risks to road safety. As a result, these vehicles lost their registration plates and could only be removed by tow trucks. Additionally, 17 vehicles were discovered to be using summer tires contrary to regulations.
