Residents of 20 cities in Paraná caring for elderly relatives can receive up to R$ 810 from the government; see rules
Family members caring for elderly individuals in Paraná can apply for financial aid from the state government through the "Bolsa Cuidador Familiar" pilot project.
Family caregivers in 20 municipalities across Paraná, Brazil, are offered financial assistance through the state's "Bolsa Cuidador Familiar" program. This initiative will provide monthly payments of R$ 810.50, which is roughly half of the national minimum wage. Each participating city will grant 15 scholarships, totaling 300 during this pilot phase. Interested individuals must register in the "Paraná Amigo da Pessoa Idosa" caregiver database to be eligible for the aid.
The program, overseen by the Secretary of Women, Racial Equality, and the Elderly (Semipi), aims to support family members who often take on the burden of caring for elderly individuals. Those interested must go through a registration process, after which they will be contacted by the responsible team to guide them through the next steps. Notably, the support can be revoked in cases of neglect or if the caregiver passes away or formally opts out.
Currently, reports indicate that 141 individuals are already benefiting from this program, which integrates into the broader "Paraná Amigo da Pessoa Idosa" initiative. As the state government continues to implement this assistance, it highlights the growing recognition of the critical role family caregivers play in supporting the elderly community in Paraná, which could set a precedent for future policies aimed at family caregiving in Brazil.
