Hellenic Police – Increased checks and additional personnel at airports due to Middle East developments
The Hellenic Police in Greece are enhancing security measures at airports due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, targeting specific interests connected to Israel and the United States.
In response to the escalating situation in the Middle East, the Hellenic Police have ramped up security measures, particularly at airports, which are considered critical infrastructure. Spokesperson Constantia Dimoglidou emphasized that the targets of increased policing are not solely diplomatic but could also encompass business and commercial interests. The measures aim to thwart any potential actions against such entities, ensuring the safety of both local and international travelers.
The police are implementing stricter checks and utilizing advanced technical means to enhance security protocols. This involves deploying additional personnel to the major airports across the country. Dimoglidou reassured the public about the thoroughness of these security measures, stating that all relevant Greek state services, including the armed forces and intelligence agencies, are on heightened alert to preempt any potential threats.
Addressing specific concerns related to the American base at Souda in Crete, Dimoglidou confirmed that there is currently no immediate cause for alarm. However, she reiterated that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure safety, highlighting the importance of vigilance during such tumultuous times in the region. The actions taken by the Hellenic Police illustrate a proactive approach to safeguarding against risks associated with international conflicts, especially those that may affect Greece's national security.
