Kenya: Parliament Airlifts Remains of MP Johanna Ng'eno, 5 Others After Helicopter Crash
The Kenyan Parliament has facilitated the airlifting of the remains of MP Johanna Ng'eno and five other victims of a helicopter crash in Nandi County to Nairobi for burial arrangements.
The Parliament of Kenya has taken initiative to airlift the remains of Johanna Ng'eno, the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, along with five other victims who lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in Nandi County. The airlifting of the bodies was coordinated by a parliamentary committee that has now begun preparations for the burial rites. On Sunday, the recovery operation successfully transported the remains from Eldoret International Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
Prior to the airlift, the bodies were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, which serves as a local medical facility in the area. The move comes after the helicopter crash occurred on Saturday afternoon, leaving the nation in mourning for the lost lives. National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang'ula, played a crucial role by directing the Clerk of the House to ensure the bodies were appropriately returned to Nairobi for safe keeping until burial arrangements can be finalized.
The incident underscores not only the tragic loss of life but also highlights the responsibilities of governmental bodies to take care of their constituents in times of crisis. The parliamentary actions indicate a recognition of the impact such tragedies have on local communities and the importance of dignifying the memory of the deceased through proper arrangements. As the country processes this loss, there will likely be discussions on enhancing safety in aviation to prevent future accidents.
