Conspiracy to 'defame' Mathura's Holi, FIR against seven YouTubers
Police have filed a case against seven YouTubers and social media influencers for allegedly defaming the image of the renowned 'Latthmar Holi' of Mathura on social media.
The police in Barsana, Mathura, have registered a case against seven YouTubers and social media influencers for allegedly tarnishing the image of the world-famous 'Latthmar Holi' through manipulated videos that misrepresented the traditions of Braj. These influencers reportedly edited old video clips to create a misleading narrative that could harm the cultural dignity of Mathura and Barsana. The police's action follows a significant backlash from the local community, angered by the defamatory portrayal of their cultural practices.
As part of the investigation, authorities have cited violations under the IT Act, specifically sections 67 and 67A, which address the sharing of obscene or offensive material online. The local police have taken these allegations seriously in an effort to protect the integrity and honor of the festival, and to prevent further public outrage. There appears to be a growing concern regarding the impact of social media on traditional events and local reputations.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Suresh Chand Rawat has clarified that circulating claims surrounding the incident are entirely unfounded. He emphasized that Holi celebrations in Braj have begun, and no unpleasant incidents involving women or tourists have occurred. The administration has not received any formal complaints regarding any disruptions or disturbances, countering the narratives being shared on social media. This situation underscores the tension between traditional practices and modern digital representation, raising questions on accountability and ethical content creation online.
