Israel has shelled Lebanon; thousands of residents leave the suburbs of Beirut

The Israeli army has launched attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon following rocket and drone launches from the Lebanese territory.

The Israeli military announced that it began targeting the terrorist organization Hezbollah across Lebanon. This attack comes after rockets and drones were launched from Lebanon, marking the first offensive against Israel by Hezbollah since the ceasefire agreement was established in November 2024, which followed more than a year of mutual conflict. Since the ceasefire took effect, Israel has conducted regular strikes against Lebanon, claiming to target militant groups and accusing them of violating the ceasefire.

On Monday, the Israeli army reported that it struck high-ranking members of Hezbollah in the Beirut area, with additional attacks occurring in the southern regions. The National News Agency of Lebanon (NNA) has reported on Israeli strikes throughout the country, including in southern suburbs of Beirut. Following the attacks, Israel issued a warning to residents of around 50 towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, identifying them as strongholds of Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for the rocket and drone launches, adding to the escalating violence in the region. The situation has led to a mass exodus of thousands of residents from the suburbs of Beirut as fears of further retaliatory strikes and conflict grow. This conflict raises concerns about the stability in the region and the potential for a broader military engagement, as both sides prepare for possible escalation.
