Israel conducts strikes in Lebanon

Israeli forces have initiated attacks on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon following rocket launches from the territory.

Israeli military announced they have begun operations against the terrorist organization Hezbollah within Lebanon. This escalation in violence follows the launch of rockets and drones from Lebanon into Israel, marking the first such incident since the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024 after a prolonged conflict. The Israeli government maintains that these targeted strikes are an active response to ongoing violations of the ceasefire, asserting its rights to protect its territory and people against potential threats.

Since the ceasefire, which ended over a year of hostilities, Israel has conducted regular strikes against Lebanon, emphasizing its determination to disrupt any plans orchestrated by Hezbollah. On Monday, the Israeli Defense Forces released a statement confirming that they targeted high-ranking members of Hezbollah in the Beirut area, with additional strikes reported in southern Lebanon. This demonstrates a continued commitment by Israel to confront Hezbollah's influence and military capabilities in the region amid rising tensions.

Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported extensive attacks across the country, particularly in southern suburbs of Beirut, indicative of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's operational infrastructure. In addition, Israel has warned residents in approximately 50 towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, which are known strongholds of Hezbollah. This situation underlines the fragility of peace in the region and raises concerns about potential exacerbation of the conflict if retaliatory actions continue from either side.
