Gyeongbuk Province is launching four specially curated tourism products to capitalize on the international recognition gained from the successful hosting of the APEC summit in Gyeongju last year.
Following the successful Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Gyeongju last year, Gyeongbuk Province is introducing four new tourism products designed to attract foreign visitors. On December 2, the provincial government announced a call for '2026 APEC Legacy Tour Gyeongbuk Tourism Specialty Products' aimed at converting the global attention generated by APEC into actual visitation. The development of these products seeks to leverage the international significance and brand value established through the APEC summit, evolving what could be a fleeting event into sustainable tourism assets.
The selected tourism products emphasize a mix of cultural, historical, natural, and traditional resources, creating unique experiences for visitors. The offerings include 'Walking the Daily Life of Koreans' featuring Korean traditional house tours and jjimjilbang experiences in Gyeongju and Cheongdo; 'Discovery Korea Eastern Route' allowing guests to engage with UNESCO World Heritage sites in Gyeongju and Andong; 'Elegance of World Leaders: Night of Records' which includes a night tour of the Bomun Tourist Complex where world leaders have visited; and 'Time Travel of Shilla and Daegaya' which immerses visitors in the historical living styles of these ancient kingdoms in Gyeongju and Goryeong.
Gyeongbuk Province is committed to supporting the operational and promotional costs of these selected products, emphasizing the creation of extended stay tourism courses that encourage foreign tourists to linger longer and contribute to local economies. Park Chan-woo, head of the province's Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau, stated that the strategic products tailored to demand would effectively enhance the stay and spending of foreign tourists while showcasing Gyeongbuk’s charm on the global stage.
