Students from Amethi trapped in Iran amid war, families appeal to PM Modi
Students from the Shia community of Bhanuoli village in Amethi are reportedly trapped in Iran due to escalating tensions following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, leading their families to appeal to PM Modi for assistance.
In Bhanuoli village of Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, following news of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, there is widespread anger among the Shia community. Local villagers have been vocally protesting against the United States and Israel, blaming them for the conflict and labeling their actions cowardly. Amidst this turmoil, more than half a dozen individuals from the village, including PhD students and researchers, are currently stranded in Iran. Their families have expressed serious concern after losing contact with them just one day prior, heightening anxieties regarding their safety.
The students in Iran, reported to include Abbas and his wife Shabika, among others like Jawad Hussain, Imam Ali, Tahira Fatima, and Sadaf Fatima, are pursuing higher education and research. Families of these students have recounted that since the afternoon of the previous day, there has been a complete breakdown in communication, exacerbating their fears and worries. Ishrat Hussain, a relative, shared that there are at least seven individuals from their village in Iran, including his nephew and daughter-in-law, while Warish Ali's daughter, who is pursuing her PhD there, last communicated during the attack.
In light of these distressing circumstances, the families have reached out to Prime Minister Modi, seeking urgent assistance and intervention to secure the safe return of the students trapped in Iran. This situation not only highlights the immediate dangers posed by the ongoing conflict but also underscores the broader international implications as familial ties are strained across national borders amidst geopolitical tensions. The incident reflects the intertwining of local community issues with global events, as families find themselves at the mercy of ongoing military struggles far from home.
