Paulinho, whose full name is Paulo George de Sousa Saraiva and affiliated with the PSB party, has officially become the new mayor of Choró, Ceará after a supplementary election held on Sunday. The election was necessary following the cassation of the previous mayor, and Paulinho, who previously served as the president of the Municipal Chamber, won a significant majority with 68.68% of the votes cast by the town's residents. His running mate, Francisco Elcimar Lusia Ribeiro, also from the PSB party, was elected as vice-mayor.

With a total of 11,527 registered voters in a municipality of approximately 12,380 inhabitants, the supplementary election saw a high level of engagement among the electorate, particularly amidst the aftermath of the previous mayor's removal. The voting concluded at 5 PM, with results showing Paulinho leading as ballots were counted, reflecting the community's support for his leadership. The new officials will serve until December 31, 2028, marking a significant term in local governance.

The election process was facilitated by the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), which deployed 58 electronic voting machines across 46 sections distributed in 25 voting locations. To ensure a smooth voting process, 15 contingency machines were reserved for potential replacements, thus demonstrating the organized efforts of electoral authorities to maintain the integrity and efficiency of the electoral procedure.
