On Sunday, September 1st, residents of Santa Catarina received a simultaneous emergency alert on their cellphones at 9:20 AM, marking the beginning of Brazil's largest disaster simulation organized by the state government. This test aimed to assess the state's preparedness for natural disasters, with accompanying sirens sounding in various regions to raise awareness among the public.

This is the second General Disaster Management Exercise organized by the State Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense (SPDC/SC), which involves activities such as evacuating homes, opening temporary shelters, and registering families. The drill will run until 5 PM and is designed to enhance community awareness and readiness for potential disaster situations, echoing the success of the first exercise held in May of the previous year.

Text messages were dispatched to inform residents about the exercise, advising them to stay calm and participate actively in the drill, which is supported by the emergency alert system. This initiative demonstrates the state's commitment to training its population in disaster response and improving public safety.
