SC has disaster drills with evacuation of houses and temporary shelters; see what to expect
On Sunday, residents of Santa Catarina will receive a special SMS from the Civil Defense announcing a disaster simulation in the state.
On Sunday (1st), the residents of Santa Catarina, Brazil, will participate in a disaster simulation organized by the Civil Defense. This exercise, scheduled to begin at 9 AM, will involve sending SMS alerts to citizens, detailing the actions that may be taken during a disaster, including evacuation of homes, opening of temporary shelters, and registering families for humanitarian assistance. The exercise is designed to enhance public awareness and preparedness for potential disaster situations.
The simulated disaster scenarios will take place in designated areas of each participating municipality, ensuring that the local populations are informed and engaged. Of the 295 municipalities in Santa Catarina, all will participate in the exercise except for Pouso Redondo, which had previously declared a state of public calamity in November due to previous disaster conditions. The Civil Defense has communicated the specific SMS that citizens will receive, advising them to remain calm and providing information regarding the emergency management response.
This initiative by the Civil Defense highlights the importance of preparedness in regions prone to disasters, aiming to equip residents with knowledge and resources on how to react in emergencies. By involving the community and practicing these simulations, Santa Catarina seeks to foster a more resilient population, capable of effectively responding to natural calamities and ensuring their safety during such occurrences.
