Over 500 Iranian drones and 167 missiles targeted UAE, defence ministry says

The UAE Ministry of Defence reported that Iranian drone and missile strikes resulted in three fatalities and numerous injuries in the UAE.

On February 28, the United Arab Emirates faced significant Iranian drone and missile strikes, which resulted in the tragic loss of three lives, as reported by the UAE Ministry of Defence. The fatalities included nationals from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, highlighting the international ramifications of the conflict. The attacks, described as a response to recent US and Israeli actions, involved 541 drones and 167 ballistic missiles; however, 506 of the drones and the majority of missiles were intercepted by UAE's air defenses.

The Ministry of Defence provided further details about the scale of the attacks, indicating that while 165 ballistic missiles were launched, the advanced defensive systems successfully neutralized 152 of them, with others landing harmlessly in the sea. Additionally, the impact on civilians was significant, with at least 58 individuals suffering minor injuries due to the drone incursions and debris falling in various parts of the country. This incident underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and the effectiveness of the UAE's air defense capabilities amidst continued threats.

This attack serves as a reminder of the broader geopolitical conflicts involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, reflecting the precarious balance of power in the Middle East. The ministry's report highlights the jurisdictionally complex nature of modern warfare where civilian lives are at risk, and it reinforces the need for ongoing international attention toward peace and security in the region. Additionally, it showcases the effectiveness of the UAEโ€™s defense strategy but also underscores the persistent threats faced by the nation in an increasingly volatile environment.
