2.2 million euros from the federal government: Fürstenfeldbruck purchases twelve new electric buses
Fürstenfeldbruck is advancing its bus fleet electrification with the purchase of twelve new electric buses, supported by over 2.2 million euros in federal funding.
The district of Fürstenfeldbruck is actively working on electrifying its bus fleet as part of a broader initiative to enhance public transportation and contribute to environmental sustainability. Starting in spring 2025, 17 electric buses will be operational, with plans to acquire an additional twelve by the end of 2028. This expansion is made possible by a significant financial contribution from the federal government, which has pledged more than 2.2 million euros in subsidies, as recently reported by district administrator Thomas Karmasin.
The investment in electric buses comes at a higher cost compared to traditional diesel vehicles, with each electric bus priced at approximately 630,000 euros versus 380,000 euros for a diesel model. However, the federal government will cover 75 to 80 percent of this price difference, amounting to around 206,000 euros per bus, as noted by Jan Halbauer, the traffic expert from the district council. Hermann Seifert, head of the Public Mobility office at the district office, commented that the total subsidies for the entire electric fleet aggregate to over seven million euros.
Despite the higher upfront costs, local officials believe that investing in electric buses will lead to lower maintenance costs in the medium to long term, which is expected to balance out the initial expenditure. This initiative emphasizes the commitment of Fürstenfeldbruck towards sustainable transportation solutions and aligns with national efforts to reduce carbon emissions in public transport.
