Call to Donate Warm Clothing and Shoes to Homeless Shelters

The Riga municipality is urging residents to donate warm clothing and shoes to support homeless individuals during the cold winter months.

The Riga municipality has issued a call for compassion towards the homeless, especially during the harsh winter months. Officials are inviting local residents to contribute warm clothing and shoes to assist those in need. Antra Gabre, the project coordinator for external communications of the Riga municipality, emphasized the urgent need for warm apparel, particularly for men, in shelters, which operate 24/7, providing both accommodation and meals to about 605 individuals daily.

Currently, Riga hosts six shelters for the homeless, and this month, the number of individuals seeking refuge has seen a slight increase compared to the previous year. The shelters have a request for not only clothing but also blankets and other useful items to ensure the comfort and safety of their residents. Residents are urged to turn in items that are in good condition, leaving them with the attendants at the shelters or delivering them to the Catholic Center on KatoΔΌu Street 57.

This initiative highlights a community-driven effort to support vulnerable populations in Riga amidst challenging weather conditions. It reflects the local government's recognition of the growing need for assistance and its commitment to ensuring that the city's homeless population receives necessary resources during this critical time. By fostering a spirit of generosity and awareness, the municipality aims to mitigate the struggles faced by those lacking secure housing.
