UMK Set Viewer Record
The UMK26 broadcast reached an average of 1.8 million viewers and had over 446,000 votes cast, setting new records for the event.
The recent UMK26 broadcast, hosted by Yle, achieved significant viewer engagement, reaching an average of 1.8 million viewers on the broadcast day, according to Finnpanel statistics. This milestone marks a new record for the UMK event, as the total audience surpassed 2.5 million Finnish viewers on Saturday night. The rising interest in the competition reflects its growing popularity among the Finnish public.
In terms of participation, this year also saw a considerable increase in voting, breaking last year's record with a total of 446,681 votes cast, which is over 100,000 more than the previous year. A majority of these votes were submitted for free through the Yle app, while voters could also opt for paid voting via phone or SMS. This surge in both viewership and voter participation suggests that UMK is cementing its place as a preeminent event in Finnish entertainment, drawing larger audiences and more active public engagement.
Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen emerged victorious in this year's competition with their song "Liekinheitin" and will now represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria, this coming May. Their win not only highlights their artistic talents but also offers a platform for them to showcase Finnish music on an international stage, potentially increasing the visibility of the UMK brand and Finnish pop culture around the globe.
