Rocha Leão advances as an ecotourism destination
Rocha Leão is set to become a reference point in ecotourism as the local government initiates a sustainable tourism development project in partnership with various stakeholders.
A new phase of tourism development has begun in Rocha Leão, a locality in Rio das Ostras, which is now part of an ecotourism development project coordinated by the local government. This initiative involves the local Economic Development and Tourism Secretariat and the Cultural Foundation, in partnership with Sebrae, aiming to organize the area as a sustainable and integrated destination ready to receive visitors. The project was introduced during a meeting attended by public representatives, institutions, and the local community, signifying a collaborative approach to developing this area.
Rocha Leão is recognized for its significant environmental heritage, being located near the Biological Reserve of União, as well as its historical and cultural value, highlighted by the old Railway Station and the preserved historical equipment in the area. These attributes present a solid foundation for developing new tourist products, which are expected to be launched in 2026. Local representatives, including Rodrigo Peleteiro, emphasized the importance of creating a sustainable tourism model that respects the environmental and cultural context of Rocha Leão while enhancing its appeal to visitors.
This initiative not only aims to attract tourists but also involves the community in the tourism development process, ensuring that the benefits of ecotourism are shared locally. The focus on sustainability, environmental preservation, and cultural heritage could position Rocha Leão as a significant player in Brazil's ecotourism sector, potentially inspiring other regions to adopt similar initiatives and ultimately contributing to the local economy and community development.
