19-year-old escapes attempted rape and is found hiding on the riverbank in Cantá
A 19-year-old female in Cantá, Roraima, was rescued after hiding all night on a riverbank to escape an attempted rape.
A young woman, aged 19, was rescued after spending a night in hiding on the banks of a river in Cantá, Northern Roraima, following an attempted rape incident. The ordeal began when she requested a ride from an 18-year-old male, who instead of taking her to her intended location diverted her to a secluded area along the Rio Cachorro. Her encounter with this individual turned disastrous when she became the target of two other unknown men who approached her while she was there.
The survivor managed to evade the attackers by hiding in the riverine vegetation, where she suffered various cuts and scratches. Police were alerted to the situation by the victim’s family, prompting a search operation that resulted in her discovery, highlighting both the immediate dangers that young women face in secluded areas and the vital role of prompt family action in crisis situations.
The male suspect who had driven her was found to have conflicting stories about the events. When confronted by the victim's mother, he initially lied about leaving her daughter, raising concerns about his involvement and further complicating the investigation. This incident underscores ongoing issues regarding women's safety in Brazil, particularly in isolated regions, and may instigate discussions about preventative measures and community awareness.
