Durán: minors captured in a truck with plates similar to those of the State

Five individuals, four of whom are minors, were captured in Durán after a police pursuit involving a stolen truck with altered plates resembling state vehicle plates.

In Durán, Ecuador, a police operation led to the capture of five individuals, including four minors, following a chase in the Divino Niño sector. The suspects were traveling in a truck that had been reported stolen and bore yellow plates similar to those used by government vehicles. This incident highlights the ongoing battle local authorities are waging against young people being involved in criminal activities, particularly linked to organized crime.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Santiago Gavilanes Pérez, subcommander of the Durán district, the operation is part of a broader police strategy aimed at curbing crime in the area. Gavilanes noted that the group of young people appeared to be involved in contract killings (sicariato) and mentioned that the truck had been identified in connection to several violent incidents in the past. The vehicle altered its plates to evade law enforcement, and it was painted over to disguise its original blue color.

During the pursuit, the suspects attempted to flee but ultimately abandoned the truck in their escape. This event sheds light on the alarming trend of youth involvement in crime and the challenges authorities face in addressing such issues within communities. The ongoing efforts of the police reflect a commitment to tackling this problem, but it also raises concerns about the social circumstances that lead young individuals into crime.
