Grupo Corpo performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall

Grupo Corpo is performing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, featuring music from their new ballet 'Revolución Diamantina.'

Grupo Corpo, a Brazilian dance company, is set to perform at the prestigious Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles until this Sunday. Their new ballet, titled 'Revolución Diamantina', features music composed by the Mexican musician Gabriela Ortiz, which has been described by the company's choreographer Rodrigo Pederneiras as the most challenging of his career. Pederneiras has over 50 years of experience in dance and shared that understanding the complex musical score was crucial in translating it into movement, a task he accomplished with the help of co-choreographer Cassi Abranches.

Interestingly, Pederneiras mentioned that the music was so complex that he faced a steep learning curve in deciphering its structure and rhythm. Teaming up with experienced company rehearsal directors and dancer Rafael Bittar, who has a background in reading scores, they managed to interpret Ortiz's challenging composition. Pederneiras' experience with string instruments, such as the guitar and piano, aided him in understanding musical notation, which proved essential in making the intricate choreography align with the music.

This collaboration at such a significant venue underscores the blend of cultural exchange and artistic expression between Brazilian dance and orchestral music. The performance not only promotes Brazilian dance on an international stage but also bridges the artistic communities of Brazil and the United States, showcasing the potential for cross-cultural collaboration in the performing arts.
