Marina de Sousa Máximo, a 78-year-old woman, died after an electric shock in her backyard while picking fruits in Itaueira, Brazil.
Marina de Sousa Máximo, aged 78, tragically died from an electric shock in her backyard in Itaueira, South Piauí, on Friday, after touching a high-tension cable. Family members reported that she was harvesting fruits when the accident occurred. Following a visit from one of her sons, who shared breakfast with her, she went to the backyard, which contained mango and umbu trees, to gather her harvest.
As she returned to the kitchen, Marina attempted to traverse a section of her yard using a small ramp that helped her cross a wall. It was at this moment that she is believed to have slipped and grabbed onto a live wire intended for her son’s bar located next to her residence. Reports indicated that this high-tension cable was supporting old, dried-out wires, which likely contributed to the incident. Unfortunately, upon contact with the cable, she received a fatal electric shock and fell to the ground.
The tragic incident highlights the dangers associated with inadequate electrical installations in residential areas. This event not only brings attention to the need for safety measures around electrical wiring but also underscores the importance of proper maintenance and inspections to prevent such fatal accidents. Marina's death has left a profound impact on her family and the local community, prompting concerns about electrical safety in similar residential setups.
