Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže emphasized the importance of stability in the Middle East for global security and reaffirmed Latvia's commitment to monitoring the situation closely while advocating for restraint and protection of civilians.
Stability in the Middle East is critical for global security, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže noted, highlighting the ongoing events in the region. On this matter, Braže has been in constant communication with Latvian embassies, EU states, and other nations to ensure that Latvia stays updated. Her recent conversations included discussions with the head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Jordanian Foreign Minister, underscoring the importance of international dialogue amidst escalating tensions.
Braže urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and protect civilian lives, stressing that further escalation must be avoided to ensure regional stability, which ultimately affects global security. Due to the current situation, planned visits to Israel and Jordan were postponed as flights were canceled, showcasing the immediate impact of the tensions on diplomatic engagements.
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has advised Latvian citizens in the region to follow instructions from their home countries and prioritize their safety. The MFA expressed concern over Iran's long-standing refusal to engage constructively in dialogue with the U.S. and EU regarding its nuclear program, drawing attention to the complexities of international security and the interconnections between various geopolitical issues.
