The Greek authorities have successfully dismantled a criminal organization that engaged in the systematic fabrication of forged travel documents intended for the illegal smuggling of migrants into European Union countries. The operation was executed by the Immigration Management Department of the Attica Police Directorate and resulted in the arrest of two foreign nationals, aged 44 and 42, who are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and possession of passports and travel documents belonging to third parties. Furthermore, the investigation revealed the involvement of another foreign national in the criminal enterprise.

The investigation, which spanned several months, uncovered that the suspects had formed a criminal group as early as the beginning of 2025, specializing in the creation of counterfeit travel documents. These included identity cards, residence permits, and driving licenses, all made in the format of plastic cards. To facilitate their operations, the criminal organization had established a fully equipped, state-of-the-art facility.

This bust is significant as it highlights the ongoing challenges Europe faces regarding illegal immigration and human trafficking, particularly amid rising numbers of migrants seeking asylum or better lives in EU countries.
