Duo Upīte/Pavlova Returns with Bronze at the World Cup; Men's Crews Underperform

Latvian duo Upīte/Pavlova won a bronze medal in the women's doubles at the World Cup, while the men's teams had a disappointing performance.

In the women's doubles competition, the Latvian duo of Upīte and Pavlova achieved a noteworthy bronze medal finish at the World Cup, trailing behind the Italian Olympic champions Andrea Vetere and Mariona Oberhofere, who won the event. Upīte and Pavlova secured a respectable third place but fell short by 0.605 seconds from gold, narrowly missing out on second place to Germany's Elīza Marija Štorha and Paulīne Paca, who finished just a hundredth of a second ahead of them. Additionally, another Latvian women's duo, Marta Robežniece and Kitija Bogdanova, faced challenges, finishing in seventh place after a less successful second run.

Conversely, the performance of the Latvian men's doubles teams was underwhelming. Mārtiņš Bots and Roberts Plūme ended their race in eighth place, closely followed by their compatriots Eduards Ševics-Mikeļševics and Lūkas Krasts. They lost to the Austrian team of Thomas Stey and Wolfgang Kindls, who claimed victory, with Bots and Plūme finishing 1.038 seconds behind. The competition saw the previously dominant German duo, Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, placed third, though they retained their lead in the overall standings despite the upset.

The results highlight the competitive nature of the season, with the Latvian women's teams showing promise, while the men's teams will need to regroup following their disappointing outcomes. As the teams progress through the season, there will be opportunities for improvement and to secure better standings in upcoming events.
