Otti compensates 4,000 for airport, starts subsidised electric buses March 1
Abia State Governor Alex Otti announces compensation payments for over 4,000 landowners affected by the Nsulu Airport project during a media chat, while also introducing subsidised electric buses starting March 1.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has shared significant updates regarding the ongoing Nsulu Airport project, revealing that his administration has successfully compensated over 4,000 landowners affected by the initiative. This announcement was made during the February edition of "Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians," held at the Government House in Umuahia. The governor emphasized that the compensation process is systematic and focused on landowners with properties within the proposed runway corridor, acknowledging the public's interest and concern.
Otti addressed rumors concerning the compensation process, suggesting that negative reports from a certain individual stemmed from a lack of attendance at relevant meetings. He reassured the public that the payments resumed on the 23rd of the month following a meeting on the 18th, with plans in place to continue processing the payments. The governor acknowledged that close to 10,000 individuals have made claims, and further compensations will follow in a step-by-step manner.
Additionally, the governor announced a new initiative aimed at improving public transportation in the region by launching subsidised electric buses starting March 1. This initiative is expected to enhance mobility for residents while promoting environmental sustainability through electric transportation options. The dual focus on compensating landowners and improving public transport reflects Otti's commitment to fostering development and addressing the community's needs in Abia State.
