NYCN Diaspora enacts 2026 constitution, urges inclusivity
The Diaspora arm of the National Youth Council of Nigeria has enacted its 2026 Constitution to enhance youth empowerment and inclusivity among Nigerians abroad.
The Diaspora branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has made a significant advancement by enacting its 2026 Constitution. This new constitutional framework is seen as a pivotal step towards consolidating the council's function as the representative body for Nigerian youth organizations across the globe. Collins Idahosa, the council's President, emphasized the importance of this constitution in establishing the council as a credible and effective platform for addressing the challenges faced by Nigerian youth in the diaspora.
The newly adopted constitution introduces four specialized organs aimed at reinforcing transparency, accountability, and enhancing the council's global outreach. These include the Diaspora Youth Congress as the decision-making body, the Diaspora Board of Trustees to serve as an internal oversight mechanism, the Diaspora Advisory Council for mentorship and policy guidance, and the Diaspora Executive Council, which will execute the council's day-to-day operations. This structure aims to empower Nigerian youth abroad, ensuring their voices are heard and considered in both local and national matters.
Idahosa reiterated the council's commitment to fostering a sense of national pride among Nigerian youth living abroad, urging inclusivity in all its programs and activities. The broader mission is to galvanize efforts among youths in the diaspora to make a positive impact globally while maintaining strong ties to their roots in Nigeria. This initiative may serve as a catalyst for more organized community engagement among Nigerian youths overseas, propelling them towards collaborative efforts that can influence national policies and international perceptions of Nigeria.
