Driver faces third day with traffic exceeding 1,100 km in São Paulo
São Paulo's traffic has registered over 1,100 km of congestion for the third consecutive day, marking one of the worst weeks of the year for drivers.
The city of São Paulo is currently facing significant traffic problems, with congestion exceeding 1,100 kilometers for three consecutive days. According to data from the Traffic Engineering Company (CET), the worst traffic was recorded on Thursday, with a staggering 1,313 kilometers of stopped traffic at 7 PM. This week is reported to be particularly challenging for drivers, as it is the first week after the Carnival, often leading to increased traffic as normal routines resume.
On Friday evening, traffic congestion showed slight fluctuations, but it remained above 1,000 kilometers at all monitored times. As of 6:30 PM, the congestion was measured at 1,101 kilometers and continued to hover near that mark into the night. Key hotspots included the Pinheiros margins, known for significant traffic issues, where an exceptional 20.4 kilometers of gridlock was reported.
The ongoing traffic issues highlight not only the persistent challenges faced by commuters in São Paulo but also point to broader concerns regarding urban planning and infrastructure, particularly in the aftermath of major events like Carnival. The situation prompts discussions on possible solutions and preventative measures that could alleviate congestion in one of Brazil's busiest cities.
