Guarabira's Medical Institute, in Brejo da Paraíba, is closed by CRM-PB due to hygiene issues
The Guarabira Medical Institute in Brejo da Paraíba has been closed due to serious hygiene problems following repeated inspections that found multiple irregularities.
The Instituto Médico Legal (IML) in Guarabira, located in the Brejo region of Paraíba, has been shut down by the State Medical Council of Paraíba (CRM-PB) due to critical hygiene issues. This decision was made after a recent inspection revealed alarming conditions including improper storage of deceased bodies and lack of basic sanitary facilities. The inspection confirmed that previous requests for improvements had been ignored, making the health environment unfit for medical practice.
Bruno Leandro, the president of CRM-PB, stated in an interview that the facility had undergone three previous inspections since concerns were first raised. During these inspections, the management was advised to make necessary renovations and improvements, particularly regarding the inappropriate combination of medical supplies with construction materials. Furthermore, the absence of proper refrigeration in the storage area for bodies has led to foul odors and an infestation of flies, indicating a severe breach of health regulations.
The closure of the IML raises significant concerns about public health and safety in the region. Such sanitary hazards could expose professionals and families to pathogens related to the care and handling of deceased individuals. As the situation develops, it is crucial for local authorities to address these issues promptly in order to restore trust in medical facilities and ensure a safe environment for healthcare services in Brejo da Paraíba.
