Overflow of the Pomba River floods streets in Pádua and rains cause damage in Northwest Fluminense
The overflow of the Pomba River in Pádua, Brazil, has resulted in significant flooding and property damage due to recent heavy rains in the region.
The Pomba River's water level continues to rise, leading to flooding in the streets of Santo Antônio de Pádua in Northwest Fluminense following hours of intense rainfall. This morning's measurement showed the river at 5.55 meters, which is 13 centimeters above the overflow threshold. The severe storms have caused disruptions in several municipalities, including Itaperuna, Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Natividade, Miracema, and Cambuci.
In Itaperuna's Raposo district, the overflow of a drainage channel has resulted in flooded streets, while some houses in Nossa Senhora da Penha have been partially affected. In Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, the district of Rosal experienced water inundation in homes, causing material losses. The Civil Defense is currently conducting assessments to determine if there are any displaced or temporarily relocated individuals due to the flooding conditions.
Natividade has also seen impacts in the Ourânia district, where there are additional concerns about a condemned bridge that hampers community mobility. In Cambuci, local waterfalls have overflowed, a phenomenon that had not occurred in some time, heightening the concerns of residents. This situation necessitates ongoing monitoring and assistance as communities deal with the aftermath of the severe weather and flooding events.
