Rain causes disruptions in Paraíba do Sul and Volta Redonda
Heavy rains on Friday affected Paraíba do Sul and Volta Redonda in Brazil, leading to flooding and landslides but no significant damage reported.
On Friday, heavy rainfall hit the municipalities of Paraíba do Sul and Volta Redonda in Rio de Janeiro, with the areas experiencing over 40 millimeters of rain in just a few hours. The local government reported several incidents of flooding and the collapse of barriers, particularly along the Sebollas Road where five landslides occurred. Fortunately, the flooding did not lead to significant damage to residents, as stated by the Paraíba do Sul city hall.
In specific terms, Paraíba do Sul recorded 45 millimeters of rain in one hour, causing notable issues like flooding in various points of the city. Meanwhile, Volta Redonda's three-hour accumulation of 43 millimeters resulted in 12 emergency calls handled by the Civil Defense teams. Areas such as Água Limpa and Três Poços were particularly monitored due to the heightened risk of land slides following the heavy downpour.
The local authorities have acted swiftly to address the hazards, clearing blocked roads and monitoring affected neighborhoods. While the rain caused temporary disruptions, officials have managed to maintain safety levels and restore normalcy with no enduring impacts on the local community reported at this time.
