Skoda: With a new factory, it becomes the largest manufacturer of BEV battery systems for Volkswagen
Skoda has inaugurated a new battery assembly plant, establishing itself as Volkswagen's largest manufacturer of BEV battery systems and a key component in the group's electric mobility strategy.
Skoda has officially opened a new battery assembly plant, positioning itself as the largest producer of BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) battery systems in the Volkswagen Group. This remarkable achievement marks a significant step in the group's wider strategy for electric mobility, backed by a substantial investment of 205 million euros. The new facility, located in Mladá Boleslav, is anticipated to play a pivotal role in enhancing the European battery value chain, fostering synergies within the group, and ensuring a stable supply of battery systems for various vehicle models from different brands under the Volkswagen umbrella.
The newly constructed production hall, covering over 55,000 square meters, boasts an impressive assembly capability. It is designed to produce one battery system every 60 seconds, enabling a daily output of over 1,100 units and an annual production capacity of up to 335,000 systems. This rapid production capability not only underscores Skoda's efficiency but also highlights its strategic importance in the context of Volkswagen's transition to electric vehicles. As global demand for electric mobility increases, this investment positions Skoda as a central player in the evolving automotive landscape.
The opening of this facility is a crucial development for the European automotive industry, particularly as it aims to strengthen local supply chains and decrease dependence on external battery suppliers. Skoda's commitment to electronic mobility through this investment will likely yield significant benefits, allowing the group to meet the growing market demands. The establishment of this state-of-the-art plant will ultimately enhance Skoda's competitiveness within the industry and plays a significant role in shaping the future of electric vehicles across Volkswagen's various brands.
