These tattoo inks can cause cancer

Finnish authorities have issued a recall of specific tattoo inks sold by Nordic Tattoo Supplies, warning they contain harmful substances linked to cancer.

The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency, Tukes, has issued an urgent warning regarding tattoo inks sold by Nordic Tattoo Supplies, specifically highlighting the danger posed by two products. The first product, Dynamic Platinum Tattoo Ink in Candy Apple Red, has been found to contain formaldehyde at levels exceeding those permitted by the European Union. Formaldehyde is categorized as a carcinogen, prompting authorities to urge consumers to discontinue use and return the product immediately. The batch number for this recalled item is LOT-CAPP-051224-DP.

In addition to the first product, Tukes has also flagged another ink, the Intenze GEN-Z - Lemon Yellow, which contains isopropanol in quantities that surpass regulatory limits. This ink likewise needs to be removed from circulation without delay, and consumers are instructed to return the product, which carries the batch number SS339. The agency is tasked with ensuring public safety and is set to provide more information regarding the potential risks of these products, as well as guidelines for their return and information about retailers.

The recall serves as a critical reminder for consumers to be vigilant about the ingredients present in personal care products, especially in the tattoo industry, which may not always be subject to rigorous safety standards. Tukes has offered its assistance for consumer inquiries and is guiding individuals on how to report any problems related to the products. This situation not only reflects on safety regulations but also the responsibility of businesses to ensure their products do not pose health risks to consumers.
