The detention of the 'bonus prince' is extended
Marius Borg Høiby's detention has been extended by at least two weeks as he awaits trial on serious charges.
Marius Borg Høiby, known as the "bonus prince" in Norway, is facing serious legal troubles as his detention has been extended by at least two weeks, pending his trial for multiple charges, including four counts of rape. Initially detained for four weeks at the beginning of the month, he was expected to be released on March 2, but Oslopolisen announced an extension is necessary due to ongoing proceedings.
The regulations allow for individuals to remain in custody for several weeks following the conclusion of a trial if they are facing charges during the proceedings. According to the police spokesperson, Andreas Kruszewski, this is in line with legal standards applied to accused individuals who are considered at high risk for re-offending. The current ongoing trial relates to serious violent offenses, and it is expected to continue until March 19.
Høiby was arrested on February 1, facing several violent crime allegations in addition to the charges he has already been indicted for. The decision to prolong his detention reflects the severity of the allegations against him and the potential risk posed if he were to be released prematurely before the legal process concludes.
