Rauman Lukko has announced that they have exercised the option on Mikael Ruohomaa’s contract, allowing the 37-year-old forward to continue playing for the team in the upcoming season. Ruohomaa signed a 1+1 year contract with the club last summer, enabling both the player and the team to choose whether to extend for an additional year. This decision comes after a standout season where Ruohomaa scored 55 points in 51 games, making him the fourth highest point scorer in the league this season, and he ranks second in assists.

This season marks Ruohomaa's best performance in the SM-liiga, surpassing his previous high from the 2017-2018 season, where he secured 49 points while playing for Kärpät. His significant contributions have been recognized, with Lukon's sports director Kalle Sahlstedt emphasizing Ruohomaa's value to the team, highlighting that his continued presence in the lineup for the next season is crucial for the club's success.

After playing overseas for seven seasons, Ruohomaa's return to Finland was largely influenced by family reasons, and he expressed enjoyment in being back in his home country.
