Digital transactions between citizens and the Greek government are expected to see an explosive increase of 86% by 2025 compared to 2023.
Greece is witnessing a significant rise in digital transactions between citizens and the government, forecasted to reach an 86% increase in 2025 compared to the figures from 2023. The General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance has reported that during the previous year, from January 1 to December 31, there were over 2.7 billion interactions facilitated by digital public services, reflecting increases of 1.3 billion compared to 2023 and over 400 million compared to 2024. This substantial increase underscores the growing reliance on digital solutions for public services in Greece.
The impressive growth is attributed to coordinated efforts aimed at enhancing interoperability among public entities, spearheaded by the Interoperability Center under the General Secretariat. Led by Secretary General Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos, these initiatives have fostered a more seamless interaction between various governmental digital platforms, thereby improving service delivery for citizens and increasing overall efficiency in public administration.
As these digital transactions continue to rise, they signal a transformative shift in how citizens engage with their government, emphasizing the importance of digital governance in contemporary public administration. This trend not only showcases technological advancement but also indicates a cultural shift in the acceptance of digital transactions and services by the Greek populace, paving the way for future innovations in e-Government services.
