VIDEO: lack of buses with left door forces passengers to board in the middle of the road in Moraes Sales, Campinas
Due to a shortage of buses with left-side doors, passengers in Campinas have been forced to board buses from the middle of the street, posing safety risks.
In Campinas, São Paulo, a significant shortage of buses equipped with left-side doors has led to unsafe boarding practices among passengers on Avenida Moraes Sales. On the morning of September 27th, dozens of commuters were seen boarding buses directly from the road, risking their safety alongside moving vehicles. Local traffic agents were present to assist the situation, but concerns about the safety of passengers remain a priority.
The issue arose specifically with the city’s bus lines 330 and 333, which are designed to stop at designated points where the buses open on the left side. However, due to mechanical failures in the fleet, these buses were replaced with vehicles from cooperatives that have doors on the right side, complicating the boarding process. As a result, passengers had to adapt to the situation, causing potential hazards.
The Municipal Company for Development of Campinas (Emdec) has stated that this is a special operational circumstance. A noteworthy moment captured on video included a bus arriving with a display indicating a different line, which was manually changed by a traffic agent in real-time to assist passengers trying to navigate the sudden changes. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in urban transport infrastructure and the need for reliable public transportation solutions in the region.
