Waiting list for exams falls by almost 60% in Uberaba; demand for consultations increases
The waiting list for medical exams in Uberaba has decreased by 59%, while the demand for specialist consultations has risen by 11%.
In a recent public hearing, the Municipal Health Secretary of Uberaba reported a significant 59% decrease in the number of patients awaiting exams in the public health system, dropping from 53,987 in August to 32,058 by December 2025. This dramatic reduction is attributed to improvements in operational capacity, including the introduction of mobile units that facilitate faster scheduling of appointments.
Célia Miranda, head of the Electronic Queue Management Department at the Municipal Health Secretary, emphasized the importance of reorganizing patient referrals and expanding the resources available for managing the waiting lists effectively. The success in reducing the exam waitlist reflects a proactive approach by the city to improve health service delivery.
Despite this notable achievement in reducing exam backlogs, the waiting list for consultations with specialist doctors has increased by 11%, indicating a shift in the types of healthcare demands faced by the municipality. This trend highlights the ongoing challenges within the healthcare system to balance resources and meet various patient needs, revealing the complexities in improving health outcomes for the community.
