Iftar Initiatives Flourish on Roads in Egypt
Volunteers in Egypt distribute food and drink to travelers who are fasting before Iftar during the Ramadan season.
In Egypt, a heartwarming tradition takes place every Ramadan where volunteers rush to provide water, dates, and juices to millions of fasting travelers just before the Iftar call to prayer. These charitable initiatives, highlighted by a recent observation near the regional highway in Menoufia governorate, reflect the spirit of social solidarity characteristic of the holy month. This annual occurrence is emblematic of community support as volunteers set up near busy roads to assist those unable to reach home in time for their meals.
On the highway, young volunteers gathered with boxes full of refreshments, actively engaging with drivers and passengers from various vehicles, including luxury cars and transport trucks. They quickly offer a light meal complete with juices and dates, displaying their enthusiasm and kindness in the task at hand. The scene is filled with smiles and blessings, showcasing the generous spirit of Ramadan as people come together for a common cause.
A meal distribution coordinator, Ahmed Shawqi, noted that this charitable effort has continued for ten consecutive years. He emphasizes that the initiative does not discriminate between recipients, providing Iftar meals to both wealthy and less fortunate individuals alike. This approach reinforces the essence of Ramadan, a month dedicated to compassion and giving, as everyone joins in the joyous act of sharing a meal, thus fostering a sense of community among all participants on the road.
