Officials from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) and the Republic of Congo convened in Brazzaville to discuss collaborative efforts on the Pioka-Tombe hydropower project. The meeting was led by DR Congo's Minister of Hydraulic Resources and Electricity, Aime Sakombi Molendo, who emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations. The project aims to harness a total installed capacity of 6.45 gigawatts, making it potentially the largest energy initiative ever undertaken jointly by the two countries.

During the talks, Sakombi highlighted the strategic nature of these discussions, which included a meeting with Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso. The hydropower project is seen as essential for addressing energy needs in both countries and promoting regional development. Officials stated that feasibility and technical studies are expected to be finalized within the next six to nine months, paving the way for subsequent implementation phases.
