Yachting: 260 million euros for port infrastructure
The 5th Panhellenic Yachting Congress emphasizes the significance of maritime tourism in Greece and announces investment plans to enhance port infrastructure and competitiveness.
The 5th Panhellenic Yachting Congress has commenced, spotlighting the integration of maritime tourism as a core component of Greece's economic strategy. With a significant financial investment of 260 million euros earmarked for the enhancement of port infrastructures, the congress gathers political and business leaders to discuss the future of yachting in the country. The initiative aims to leverage Greece's rich maritime heritage to bolster its economic framework significantly.
Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Stefanos Gkikas, delivered the keynote address, representing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in which he underscored yachting as a vital force for maritime tourism. He noted that the sector not only stimulates economic growth but also plays a crucial role in job creation within the maritime industry. Gkikas emphasized the governmentβs commitment to fostering the conditions necessary for yachting to thrive, including legislative reforms to streamline operations and encourage boat registrations.
In addressing bureaucratic challenges, Gkikas highlighted Law 4926/2022, which serves to activate pleasure and tourist day boats. This legislation is particularly aimed at modernizing Greece's regulatory environment, thereby enhancing the ease of doing business in the yachting sector. With over 6,600 vessels recorded in the Electronic Register of Pleasure Boats, this congress represents a concerted effort to position Greece as a competitive player in the global maritime tourism market, focusing on both investment and sustainable practices in yachting.
