The State Labor Inspectorate Will Not Investigate the Incident at the 'Eternal Fire' in Daugavpils

The State Labor Inspectorate will not conduct an investigation into a workplace incident at the Dubrovina Park in Daugavpils following an explosion, as the injured individual did not experience incapacity for work.

On February 19, a notable explosion occurred at the Soviet soldiers' memorial in Dubrovina Park, Daugavpils, reportedly due to a gas leak. One person was injured in the incident and received medical assistance. It was observed in a video released by the municipal police that the injured individual was conscious and able to move even before emergency services arrived.

The Regional State Labor Inspectorate (VDI) clarified that there would be no workplace accident investigation since the injured person did not suffer any incapacity for work as a result of the explosion. This decision raises questions about the thresholds for conducting such investigations and their implications for workplace safety regulations in Latvia.

Meanwhile, the State Police have initiated a preliminary examination to clarify the circumstances surrounding the explosion. This step is part of a broader inquiry into potential safety violations that may have led to the incident, highlighting the need for careful scrutiny in public areas where safety measures are crucial, especially in locations of historical significance like the memorial park.
