The victim of the explosion in Dubrovina park has not experienced incapacity to work

The Latvian State Labor Inspectorate announced that it will not investigate the explosion incident in Daugavpils' Dubrovina park due to the victim not experiencing any incapacity to work.

The State Labor Inspectorate of Latvia has decided not to carry out an investigation into the explosion that occurred near the Soviet soldiers' memorial in Dubrovina park, Daugavpils, as the victim involved did not suffer any incapacity to work. This conclusion was reached by the Latgale regional VDI, following medical assessments of the individual affected by the incident that took place during maintenance of the so-called 'eternal flame' on February 19. Reports suggested that the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak, with videos from the scene showing a person near the 'eternal flame' site during the explosion. Although the victim received medical assistance, they were seen moving after the incident but did not get back on their feet, raising questions about the severity of their injuries. The ongoing situation has brought attention to safety protocols during maintenance works at such memorials. The Daugavpils municipal police have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances of the explosion are underway through the South Latgale precinct. This incident draws focus not only on the dangers associated with maintenance work involving gas but also on the responsibilities of the authorities regarding worker safety and incident reporting, particularly when handling sites of national significance such as war memorials.
