Ice Cream Market Grows 35% in Five Years and Intensifies Price Competition in the Country

The Brazilian ice cream market is experiencing significant growth, expanding by 35.4% between 2020 and 2025, amid fierce price competition and allegations of anti-competitive practices.

The Brazilian ice cream market is seeing remarkable growth, with a 35.4% increase from 2020 to 2025, according to Euromonitor data. This expansion is primarily driven by major multinational corporations, particularly Kibon and Nestlé, leading to intensified price competition that is reportedly unsustainable. The environment has become increasingly contentious as these corporations engage in aggressive pricing strategies that threaten the viability of local manufacturers.

The Abrasorvete (Brazilian Association of Ice Cream and Other Edible Frozen Goods) represents over 10,000 companies in the sector and has raised concerns regarding anti-competitive practices. In December 2025, the association formally notified Froneri Brasil, which controls Nestlé, about these concerns and has expressed similar apprehensions regarding Kibon. Abrasorvete warns of predatory pricing practices that could undermine small-scale producers by offering products at prices that do not even cover basic production and distribution costs.

In addition to pricing strategies, Abrasorvete claims that exclusive contracts in major retail chains are further exacerbating the challenges faced by local manufacturers. These allegations highlight the need for regulatory scrutiny as the association is evaluating whether to escalate their concerns to governmental regulatory bodies. The situation points to a broader issue within Brazil’s ice cream industry that could have significant implications for market competition and local entrepreneurship.
