USU: The orders for those going to war have changed - these things to bring along
The Finnish Defense Forces have updated the list of equipment reservists should bring when called to service, reflecting recent global security concerns.
The order card given to reservists preparing for war has been updated significantly since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, reports Uutissuomalainen. In 2020, the list primarily included hygiene and camping gear, but it has now expanded to include essential items such as personal weapons, navigation devices, and drones for those who possess them. Captain Pasi Kontinen of the Army Headquarters explains that interest in personal equipment purchases among reservists has increased in recent years, prompting these updates to the list of necessary supplies.
Reservists are now required to bring essential documents, including a passport, military ID, dog tag, cash, driver's license, and prescription medication. While some items on the list remain optional, the focus on readiness reflects a pressing need to elevate defense preparedness in Finland. In response to the evolving security landscape, reservists are being instructed to report for additional service, indicating a mobilization strategy to ensure that forces are ready for deployment if necessary.
The concept of mobilization signifies a national commitment to preparing both the armed forces and society for combat readiness. This change in protocol showcases Finland's proactive steps to enhance its defense capabilities against perceived geopolitical threats, particularly in light of recent conflicts in Europe. By keeping reservists informed and equipped, Finland aims to fortify its national security and maintain a robust defense posture in uncertain times.
