A huge fire in Vilnius' industrial area was contained: flames affected about 5000 square meters
A significant fire in an industrial area of Vilnius has been localized after affecting approximately 5000 square meters, with firefighting efforts ongoing.
A large fire broke out on Thursday evening around 9 PM on Eišiškių Plentas in Vilnius, starting in a hangar and quickly spreading to nearby structures. Initially reported at about 1000 square meters, the blaze required the mobilization of extensive firefighting resources, including eight tankers and other specialized vehicles, with around 50 personnel on the scene. Firefighting operations continued into Friday morning as crews worked to contain hotspots and secure the area.
Fire department advisor Donatas Gurevičius provided updates to LRT Radio, confirming that around 5 AM, the fire was announced to be localized, meaning that its spread had been halted and sufficient forces remained present to manage the situation. The authorities also took measures to clear the surrounding roads, aware of the busy traffic expected due to morning commuters in the industrial zone. Even as some areas were secured, firefighting efforts persisted to fully extinguish remaining pockets of the fire.
The incident highlights the risks associated with industrial areas and the challenges faced by firefighting services in managing large-scale emergencies. The cooperation between various emergency services resulted in a swift response that likely prevented the situation from escalating further, ensuring safety for local residents and workers in proximity to the fire.
