Telangana: Salary Cuts for Those Not Caring for Elderly Parents, CM Announces
The Telangana government plans to introduce a law that will cut the salaries of government employees who do not care for their elderly parents.
The Telangana state government is preparing to enact a new law aimed at ensuring that government employees attend to their elderly parents. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced this initiative, emphasizing the value of parental sacrifices that have enabled these young officers to secure prestigious jobs. He addressed the new Group-1 and Group-2 officers during a training program closure, highlighting their responsibility toward their parents.
The proposed law aims to impose salary cuts of 10-15% on employees who fail to provide adequate care for their elderly parents. This deducted amount will be deposited into the parents' bank accounts, thereby providing some financial relief directly to the neglected elderly. CM Reddy asserted that this policy not only underscores the importance of familial duty but also aims to cultivate respect and care for parents among the younger generation.
In addition to this proposal, Chief Minister Reddy announced a collaboration with Harvard University to offer executive education to state government officials. This partnership, along with the MCR HRD Institute operated by the state, illustrates the government's commitment to professional development while ensuring that ethical values resonate within the public service sector.
