Alumni seek 70-year-old Ekiti school return to original site
The Alumni Association of Egbeoba High School is urging the Nigerian Federal Government to restore the school to its original location, which was changed 23 years ago.
The Alumni Association of Egbeoba High School in Ikole Ekiti has made a formal appeal to the Nigerian Federal Government to return the school to its original site, emphasizing that the school's displacement in 2000 has caused significant damage to its development and morale. During a press conference held in Ikole Ekiti, the National President of the association, Prof Femi Omotoso, highlighted the historical and educational significance of the original campus, underlining that the school had served as a beacon of academic excellence for 46 years before being relocated to accommodate a Federal Government College.
Prof Omotoso elaborated on the adverse effects of the school's relocation, which disrupted not only the school's identity but also its traditional values and infrastructure that had been nurtured over decades. He emphasized that the historical roots of Egbeoba High School are vital to its legacy, and the alumni believe that returning to its original site would help restore its former glory and enhance the educational environment for current and future students. The press conference was part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of the institution, which prompted alumni and students to revisit the old site, reminding everyone of the school's rich history.
This request comes at a time when many educational institutions are reflecting on their histories and the influences that have shaped them. The alumni's initiative to push for the return to the original site not only aims to honor the school's past but also to advocate for a better educational framework that resonates with its foundational values. It raises critical questions about the management of educational institutions in Nigeria and the importance of maintaining historical identities in the face of modernization and restructuring efforts by the government.
