On February 26, 2026, over 1.8 million students and approximately 80,000 teachers in Ecuador concluded the academic year under the Costa-Galápagos educational regime. This academic year was structured into three periods, totaling 200 school days, interspersed with vacations, to ensure a comprehensive educational experience. The staggered beginning of this academic year commenced on May 5, 2025, for public institutions, with several private schools starting earlier.

The academic calendar was segmented into the first period, running from May 5 to August 8; the second period from August 12 to November 14; and the final segment from November 17 to February 26. Following the end of this last period, students enter their vacation phase, provided they have not failed any subjects. For the graduating third-year bachillerato students, this time also involves graduation ceremonies, signifying the conclusion of their secondary education.

After the academic year closes, between February 27 and March 10, students and families are also preparing for the next steps in their education, including transitions to higher education or vocational training, which highlights the importance of this transitional period for students in Ecuador.
