CNJ hears five reports of abuse against a judge from Minas Gerais
The CNJ has received five allegations of sexual abuse against judge Magid Nauef Láuar, following his controversial vote to acquit a man convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl.
The National Justice Council (CNJ) in Brazil is currently investigating allegations of sexual abuse against judge Magid Nauef Láuar of the Minas Gerais Court of Justice. These charges have emerged in the wake of his decision to acquit a man who had been previously convicted for the rape of a 12-year-old girl, a ruling that sparked public outrage and raised questions about the judge’s judgment. Following this incident, five individuals have come forward with claims of sexual abuse against the judge, alarming both the public and legal communities.
Among the allegations, two were made public through social media, including a significant claim from Saulo Láuar, the judge's cousin, who accused the judge of attempting to sexually abuse him when he was just 14 years old. This revelation adds an unsettling dimension to the accusations, particularly as it showcases a familial connection that complicates both the investigation and public perception of Judge Láuar’s character. The CNJ has confirmed the initiation of a procedural investigation regarding the judge's conduct, which has been prompted by denunciations from federal deputy Duda Salabert.
As the investigation unfolds, the judicial community is watching closely, highlighting the need for accountability within the legal system. Judge Lauár has stated through the Judiciary that he will not comment on the allegations made against him. These events raise serious implications not only for Judge Láuar’s career but also for public trust in the judicial process, especially concerning how allegations of such grave nature are addressed within Brazil’s legal framework.
